Spirax Sarco fixed temperature discharge steam traps use a liquid expansion device to discharge condensate at a preset fixed temperature. They are suited to specialist thermostatic duties where a defined discharge point is more useful than fully pressure-responsive operation or immediate mechanical drainage. Because they release condensate after a controlled amount of sub-cooling, they can be useful where the duty values predictable temperature behaviour and compact thermostatic operation over maximum immediate discharge capacity. This makes them a more application-specific choice within the wider steam trap portfolio rather than a general replacement for balanced pressure, ball float or thermodynamic designs. Used correctly, they help engineers apply a predictable temperature-based discharge rule where the process duty genuinely benefits from it, while keeping trap selection aligned to the actual heat-transfer objective of the application.
